Ryūzōji Ren was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, and worked as a policy researcher and consultant specializing in urban development and public infrastructure. During his university years, he met Serena Ng, a Singaporean who had moved to Japan for university and eventually decided to build her life there. They fell in love during their time together, and after graduating, Serena remained in Japan. The two eventually married and settled in Kyoto.
Their marriage was not exactly a fairytale, but they made it work. In late August 2003, their son, Ryūzōji Iori, was born in Kyoto. Iori spent most of his early childhood there, growing up as their only child in a quiet household surrounded by his father's Japanese family. He was a reserved and obedient child, though he could be somewhat spoiled in the way only an only child could be. He was quiet around people he had just met and usually needed some time before he became comfortable enough to open up.
For years, the family lived a relatively ordinary life. That changed in 2015, when Ren became involved in a controversial public redevelopment project in Kyoto. After raising concerns about irregularities within the project and refusing to support several decisions that had political backing, he became caught in a growing dispute between the people involved. The situation never became a public scandal, but the pressure surrounding his work made it increasingly difficult for the family to remain in Japan comfortably.
With Serena's Singaporean citizenship and family still living there, the decision was eventually made for the three of them to leave Japan and move to Singapore. Serena herself had not returned to Singapore for years, but the circumstances left them with few other practical choices. In 2015, the family settled there, and Iori was enrolled in an international school as they gradually built a new life together.
The following years passed relatively quietly. Then, in 2019, Iori received an unexpected surprise: a younger sister. After sixteen years of being an only child, having a sibling was something he had never really imagined for himself. As Serena's due date approached, Iori found himself strangely nervous about the idea. He had no idea what it would be like to suddenly have a baby in the family, or whether he would even know how to be an older brother.
When his little sister, Ryūzōji Reika, was finally born, however, most of those worries disappeared almost immediately. Holding her for the first time, Iori found himself becoming unexpectedly attached to her. From then on, he quietly promised himself that he would always take care of her and love her for the rest of his life.
As he grew older, Iori's interest in business became more apparent. He was curious about how companies operated, how people made decisions, and how information could be used to understand and solve problems. This eventually led him to pursue a Bachelor of Business in Business Analytics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
At university, Iori developed a stronger interest in the analytical side of business, particularly where data, strategy, and decision-making intersect. After graduating, he began working as a Business Analyst, a role that allowed him to work with people from a wide range of professional backgrounds and industries. Although he remains fairly quiet when meeting people for the first time, years of moving between different environments have made him more comfortable navigating new places and unfamiliar circles. His work continues to expose him to different industries, perspectives, and people, giving him plenty of opportunities to learn beyond the field he originally studied.
